Overview

The "premier class" of Egyptian liveaboards

It is known for its big fish encounters and challenging dives on exposed deep-sea reefs. Our tour starts from Safaga/Soma and ends in Port Ghalib (Marsa Alam). This route is aimed at experienced divers (min. AOWD, 50 logged dives recommended) who are looking for steep walls, drift diving and encounters with pelagic fish (sharks).
After arrival and check-in, the first overnight stay in the harbour (Safaga / Soma Bay). The boat departs the next morning.

Dive & crossing: Tobia Kebir or Tobia Arbaa (7 towers) serve as an ideal check dive in Safaga (cosy reefs, coral gardens). Shaab Sheer is a large reef with coral gardens, caves and the possibility of drift dives. The long crossing to the Brothers Islands begins in the evening.day

Wrecks & walls: A full day with 3-4 dives at the Brothers Islands. Little Brother is famous for its densely overgrown walls with soft corals and the high probability of seeing thresher sharks, grey reef sharks and oceanic whitetips.

Wrecks & big fish: Continue on Big Brother. Diving the wrecks Numidia (at 15m to >80m) and Aida II (at 30m to >60m), which are fantastically overgrown. The long crossing to Daedalus Reef begins in the evening. IMPORTANT: Night dives are prohibited in all marine national parks (Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinstone).

Hammerhead sharks: Full day at Daedalus Reef, a huge, isolated reef in the middle of the sea, marked by a lighthouse. Here you have the best chance of seeing large schools of hammerhead sharks (especially on the northern plateau) as well as thresher sharks, grey reef sharks and manta rays.

Corals & big fish: Further dives at Daedalus Reef (up to 4). The steep walls are extremely densely overgrown with hard and soft corals. In the evening, we return to the coast, usually to the bay of Abu Dabab (near Marsa Alam).

Shark legend: Early dives at the legendary Elphinstone Reef, which is known for its frequent encounters with the Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Longimanus) (often in shallow water). The reef offers spectacular steep walls covered with gorgonians. Return to Port Ghalib harbour in the afternoon for the last overnight stay on board.

Check-out in the harbour (Port Ghalib) after breakfast.

Summary of the route character

Focus: Pelagic big fish, sharks (hammerhead sharks, longimanus, thresher sharks), steep walls, wrecks (Brothers).
Requirements: Very high. The dive sites are far out in the open sea (deep-sea diving), which often means strong currents, swell and the need for drift dives. The crossings are long.
Experience: The best route in the Red Sea for divers looking for the thrill of big fish action and the most impressive, unspoilt reefs.

    • Check out

A large Erg, beautifully overgrown with hard and soft corals on which cavort also many schooling fish. The sand falls slowly, which also gives a field of garden eels.

Very beautiful coral garden in about 15 meters deep with many different hard and soft corals. As a bonus, there's a Canon and an unusual and very lively overhang.

The Elphinstone is among divers a legend. Solitary offshore reef in elevation of about 100 meters. The diversity is huge. Highlights include encounters with Longimanus sharks and - yes to the season - hammerheads. The flow, however, can sometimes be tricky here.

A top Egypt dive destination, the two Brother islands are for advanced divers who have completed at least 50 dives. For those who venture to the islands, this magnificent dive area is home to dazzling coral reefs and wonderful wrecks and you can even swim alongside whitetip and hammerhead sharks. The dive conditions here are very challenging with exposed areas and strong currents.

Daedalus Reef can only be reached by liveaboard boats and is one of the top dive sites on most divers' wish lists. This spectacular reef, which is about 80km from Marsa Alam and 400m long, is hard to miss as it even has its own lighthouse. With a visibility of 20 - 30 metres, hammerhead sharks, barracudas, large mackerel, tuna, eagle rays and manta rays are frequently spotted.
