Overview

Freediving Safari (Marsa Alam / Fury Shoals)

This route is optimised for freediving (apnoea diving), as it focuses on areas with sheltered, shallow bays, sandy bottoms and lagoons that offer a high probability of encounters with marine mammals.

Abu Dabab – a large, sheltered bay with extensive seagrass beds and sandy bottoms. Ideal for calm, shallow breathing exercises. There is a very high probability of seeing green sea turtles and often dugongs (sea cows) grazing here.

Marsa Shoni / Marsa Mubarak - sheltered bays and lagoons with sandy bottoms. They offer shallow, calm waters and are ideal for line diving and fun dives in the shallow coral gardens. Turtles and guitarfish are frequently sighted here.

Shaab Alam - a reef that often serves as an anchorage, with good coral formations at accessible depths. Beautiful reef structures for static freediving and exploring the reef.

Shaab Sharm - a more exposed but accessible reef. Steep walls and plateaus offering depth for more advanced freedivers. Good visibility and the chance to spot larger reef sharks and pelagic fish in the blue water.

Wadi Gimal – protected areas that belong to a national park. Offers a combination of coral and mangrove ecosystems. Untouched corals and good opportunities for longer freedives along the reef edge.

Fury Shoals - Shaab Sataya (Dolphin House) is the central element of the safari. The horseshoe-shaped lagoon is perfectly protected. Main highlight: large school of spinner dolphins. The calm lagoon is ideal for snorkelling and swimming with dolphins.

Partly coral gardens on a flat sandy bottom ensure a comfortable dive and encounters with the typical Red Sea residents.

A large system of caverns and caves invites the divers to the most exciting dive sites in the southern Red Sea. Cathedral Illustrative, light-filled halls provide an unforgettable experience.

Shaab Sharm is a popular diving site located about 12 km off the coast of Marsa Alam, Egypt. It is a long, exposed reef with steep walls that drop to over 200 meters, making it rich in coral growth and marine life, though strong currents mean it is not suitable for beginners and night dives are not possible. It is a frequently visited location for divers on south Red Sea diving safaris.

Marsa Mubarak is one of the best known and most popular bays in the Marsa Alam region. It is located about 10 kilometres north of Port Ghalib and is a must for every diver due to its sheltered location and famous marine life (dugongs, green sea turtles).
