From Dolphinhouse to Abu Nuhas

The diving centre in El Gouna is in the favourable position to access almost 60 dive sites, 10 of which are wrecks – some are even famous. A highlight is surely a visit to the “SS Thistlegorm” probably the most famous wreck in the Red Sea.
Also Abu Nuhas with its four well-known wrecks Ghannis D, Kimon M, Chrisoula K and Carnatic are within reach just as much as the 120 metre long Rosalie Moller.

Wreck diving

The Thistlegorm is probably the most famous wreck of the Red Sea. It lies on the eastern side of the road from Gubal and is especially known for his bulging cargo spaces in which are motorcycles and trucks.

For years, the "Ulysses" was been mistaken for a cable ship. The wreck in a depth of max 27 meters is one of the most famous and popular destinations for wreck divers in the Red Sea.

The Bluff Point is a dive site that demands for its strong currents the diver much. But the reward for the effort is high. Gorgonians, colorful soft corals and again big fish make the Bluff Point into a genuine attraction.

On the western side of the Street of Gubal the Rosalie Moller lies in the depth of 40 meter. Roughly the same size as the Thistlegorm and sunk just two days later. The charge is less spectacular, because Rosalie had only coal loaded. But the wreck is better preserved than the Thistlegorm.

The Kimon M is also known as lenses freighter because of thes charge. The bow protrudes slightly out of the water. The destroyed stern lies at the deepest point at 30 meters.

The once in Travemünde spilled from the stack Chrisola K failed 1981 the reef of Abu Nuhas. The "tiles Freighter" is quite badly damaged. This requires for the diver a special attention.

The steamboat Carnatic is considered as one of the finest wrecks in the Red Sea. The ship had wine and allegedly even gold loaded, sank 1869. From the wreck lying on its side, the fuselage envelope is really just obtained. The partially dissolved planks offer photographers bizarre motifs. The ship had, moreover, a brief guest appearance in Jules Verne's novel "Around the World in 80 Days".

The machine room and the well divable bridge are the highlights of the freighter, which failed on the reef of Abu Nuhas in 1983. Coveted was its cargo of tropical wood.

Not far from the famous wreck is one of the most beautiful coral gardens in front of El Gouna in ten to 12 meters, which then in a Drop-off proceeds. Here determine shoals of fusiliers and mackerels image. Even tuna fish can be seen here.

The coral garden which drops slowly stage, is a paradise for turtles. Sometimes even leopard sharks can be observed.

Great Ergs dominate this spot. Hard corals and gorgonians dominate the picture. Lionfish, stonefish and scorpionfish are here at home - and who has good eyes, discovered the occasional frogfish.

Elongated reef, the main riff drops to 12 to 15 meters. Following is a sandy area before it starts from 30 meters to goes into depth. Fanadir is known for its large cowtail stingray.

Very nice overgrown cliff with much poison fish. From 12 to 15 meter's it is flat and sandy. The edge at 30 meters is closer to the main reef than in the south of Fanadir. A look into the blue can be worthwhile.

After a stretch of sand with small coral blocks it is stepped down to about 30 meters. The way back leads to the main reef, which forms an approximately eight-meter high cliff. Besides schooling fish, there's also plenty of lionfish and scorpion fish.

A large garden of hard coral, beautifully overgrown and colorful. In addition to the camouflaged poison fish you can find often an octopus.

The shallow sandy ground is enlivened by small blocks of hard corals. The beauty of this place unfolds actually really only at a night dive.

Purple soft corals, gorgonians real and fake give this shallow dive site its special charm. It is often used for night dives.

A very nice coral garden where hard and soft corals harmony. In between there are always lionfish or well camouflaged poison fish.

A large Erg, which can be easily circumnavigate. He holds many surprises, such as spotted hatchetfish and some nurseries for young fish. Even dolphins have been observed here.

Many small ergs and coral blocks where the diver can orient. The sense of direction should be a bit pronounced. For reward sometimes passes an eagle ray or turtle.

Solitary large reef south of Umm Gamar. Immediately after the entry lies the wreck of a Patrol Boat, the lowest point, the stern, at about 35 meters.

Under the central buoy in about 15 meters remains a shark-cage, left by the diving pioneer Hans Hass. The highlight of the dive at the dropoff is a cave in 28 meters depth.
